RELIEF ASSISTANTS
Our mission is to...

Position Summary
Assistants work to build a relationship of mutual care and support with people who have intellectual disabilities (our ‘Core Members’) by fostering a home life of unity, mutual respect and participation by allmembers. This is done through supporting Core Members with skill building, personal care needs, money
management, medical care, appointments, family and work connections, household chores, laundry, medications, meal preparation, and transportation.

 

Ideal candidates will possess the following:
• a positive attitude and willingness to learn
• effective oral and written communication skills
• the ability to work independently and in a team setting
• creative problem solving and decision-making skills

 

Qualifications include:
• education or experience in Developmental Services an asset
• criminal background check including vulnerable sector screening
• valid G class driver’s license in good standing and access to a reliable vehicle an asset
• current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCVI) or First Aid/CPR certification an asset

 

We are seeking individuals who have evening and weekend availability, with an immediate start date.

LIVE-OUT ASSISTANT IN OUR SUPPORTED INDEPENDENT
LIVING (SIL) PROGRAM

Position Summary
The SIL Assistant is primarily responsible for supporting two individuals with developmental disabilities (our ‘Core Members’) with daily activities in a supported independent living household and in our Day Program. The SIL Assistant works in collaboration with other team members to ensure and nurture the well-being, growth and development of Core Members. This applies to various aspects of daily life in accordance with the principles, values and philosophy of L’Arche. This is a permanent, guaranteed hour role (currently averages 32 hours/week) which includes Group Insurance Benefits and opportunities for continued growth.

 

Ideal candidates will possess the following:
• excellent organizational skills and effective communication skills
• the ability to work independently and in a team setting
• creative problem solving and decision-making skills
• a positive attitude and willingness to learn

 

Qualifications include:
• 1-2 years of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly supporting individuals with complex behavioural needs/dual diagnosis is an asset
• valid G class driver’s license in good standing and access to a reliable vehicle
• ability to maintain a schedule which includes daytime, evening and weekend support times (with a weekend off within each rotation).
• criminal background check including vulnerable sector screening
• current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) and/or First Aid/CPR certification an asset
• post-secondary education in a related field is an asset
